Ever since the premiere of Campaign 4, fresh DM the talented storyteller has kept viewers on edge with extensive world-building, a wide array of characters, and a exciting storyline including celestial beings, fiends, and sinister influences increasing in influence within the urban setting.
Warning: Spoilers for the third episode of the new season lie ahead.
The Warrior Group Introduced
Episode 3 concluded with a huge suspense moment and revealed the first table of heroes who will split off from the central cast to embark on their separate journey, apart from the remaining groups.
The combat-focused team features Teor (brought to life by Travis Willingham), the nimble rogue (the talented performer), Tyranny (Whitney Moore), Wicander (Sam Riegel), and Kattigan Vale (Robbie Daymond).
Why Split the Party?
Considering a large ensemble, it was clear from the beginning that maintaining everyone at the same party would be unfeasible.
Hence, the opening chapters of this story serve as an Overture, connecting the characters’ stories before branching into three smaller tables: Soldiers, Strategists, and Explorers.
What Defines the Combat Party
Per Brennan Lee Mulligan, the combat-focused party is for adventurers who enjoy a typically action-packed battle-oriented narrative style where peaceful solutions are rare.
Upon first impression, figures such as the hesitant healer Wicander Halovar might seem mismatched, but the developments of the third episode show why these specific adventurers are ideally matched for the warrior group.
Why They Must Go
First, the party understands precisely where to go next after a violent first encounter with the antagonists.
An old friend of the deceased character—whose death started the narrative’s action—manipulated The Crow Keepers for his selfish purposes, entering Thjazi’s hideout, attacking the rogue, and swiping all the magical artifacts to auction.
Casimir then settled his debts and escaped to a Halovar stronghouse in the northern region, above the city, with Teor’s brother pursuing him.
Individual Reasons
Additionally, each character has a specific drive to leave the city the metropolitan area:
- Thimble, as Thjazi’s partner and best friend, desires retribution.
- Kattigan is familiar with the northern area and cautions that it is a nasty environment.
- The warrior and The healer, having resisted his family’s wishes to execute the fighter and instead rescued him, have no other options.
- Yet, their reputation as important members in the influential clan could enable the team access areas they normally couldn’t.
- Moreover, Teor pledged a unbreakable promise to The cleric for his deliverance and will now accompany him anywhere.
Wanted and Hunted
In addition, all of them are wanted by the powers that control the setting for a variety of reasons, making remaining behind too risky:
- The rogue and Kattigan are recognized lawbreakers.
- The strong figure and Wicander turned against the influential house and the horde of evil beings they are partnered with.
- The target is wanted dead by the clan.
This results in them few options but to travel to the remote area in quest for the traitor.
Upcoming Developments
From episode three’s follow-up content, we find out that the combat party won’t be around the following episode, leaving the other eight players to assemble the Explorers and Planners tables.
Audiences can anticipate finding out which adventurers will be where in the season’s last Overture episode, released on next week.
